Dr. Michael Schaplowsky, ND
Dr. Michael is a licensed naturopathic doctor who completed two Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Alberta. Dr. Schaplowsky's first B.Sc. was in the Faculty of Science in Biological Sciences with a strong focus in genetics. His second B.Sc. was in the Faculty of Medicine and focused on Medical Laboratory Studies. As an integral component of his studies, he did a one year internship at the University of Alberta Hospitals in the departments of Hematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Histopathology, Stat Lab, and in conjunction with the Provincial Lab - Microbiology. He earned his Doctoral Degree in Naturopathic Medicine from the oldest and well respected college in North America - National University of Natural Medicine. In addition, Dr. Schaplowsky also earned a B.Ed. at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and a M.Div. from Newman Theological College. He has worked for The University of Alberta Hospitals, The Royal Alexandra Hospital, as a medical laboratory scientist and at The Cross Cancer Institute (Edmonton) and The Tom Baker Cancer Centre (Calgary) as a clinical analyst. In addition, he has worked in scientific research at the University of Alberta in the area of bone calcification. Dr. Schaplowsky's comprehensive studies and practice in medicine, hematology, chemistry, clinical microbiology and genetics, along with theology gives him a unique insight into addressing a patient's needs. As an Orthodox priest he is willing to explore and integrate many of those areas where others may shy away. In naturopathic medical college, Dr. Schaplowsky trained extensively in the areas of clinical nutrition, pharmacology, endocrinology, botanical medicine, counselling, oncology, physical medicine, as well as conventional medical treatments. He has completed extra coursework in the areas of oncology, nutrition-gastroenterology, European biological medicine, and counselling. He enjoys treating those who are plagued by chronic illnesses such as PCOS, digestive issues, psoriasis and eczema, multiple sclerosis, stress and fatigue, and has a special interest in oncology (cancer) and is a member of OncANP. As he says "there is real joy in helping a person find true lasting relief". In addition, he has a keen interest in women's health and has treated a number of infertile couples. Dr. Schaplowsky is an avid speaker and teacher. He frequently offers presentations to various organizations and institutions focusing on health and well being.
