Cancer
What is it?
Cancer is a condition in which abnormal cells which have developed in the body are not destroyed through the regular mechanisms in the body but rather survive and then grow abnormally. This results in these cells forming tumors and with time often spreading to other sites in the body. These cells due to their abnormally fast growth rate starve healthy tissues and invade into the healthy cells areas preventing them from properly functioning.
Cancer is often treated in conventional medicine with either radiation or chemotherapy (chemical agents that are toxic to fast growing cells).
Cancer is often treated in conventional medicine with either radiation or chemotherapy (chemical agents that are toxic to fast growing cells).
Key Points:
- characterized by the fast growth of abnormal cells which form in the body.
- survivability depends greatly on the type and location of the cancer.
- Characterized by a decreased ability to get through the day.
- Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women (lung cancer is the second most common).
- Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men.
- Close to 200,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in Canada each year ranging from simple skin cancer to ovarian and osteosarcoma.
How do we treat it?
Our naturopathic treatments are two pronged - improve the bodies ability to fight and destroy cancer cells and to directly destroy the cancer through the use of medicinal agents (ex. high dose (IV) Vitamin C, and mistletoe two mention but two). Most of our patients opt for a complimentary approach to their cancer care. That is, patients receive conventional care from the local cancer centre and naturopathic care as well. In addition, Dr. Michael Schaplowsky is a member of OncANP (Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians)
